Gift Aid

Gift Aid is an important source of extra income for the society. We are able to reclaim from HMRC 25% of the membership fee of any member who is a UK tax payer and has agreed to make thier membership fee a donation under gift aid. There is no additional cost to the member in doing this. If you have not already done this, then we would request you download and return the gift aid form by clicking on the more information button below. This form can be completed on your computer, saved and then emailed back to the Membership Secretary as an attachment, or it can be printed out and posted back.

Membership is renewable annually in July and is open to anyone with an interest in the history of Cumbria. Main categories are Member; Family Member, at reduced price; and Associate Member, at reduced price (student in full time education).

A further category of membership "Life Member" is also available at 20 times the current annual rate. This can not currently be done on line. You can download the application for this by Clicking Here.

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP:

To join the CWAAS, please either click one of the buttons below to carry this out on line or print out and complete the application form, and post it to us along with a cheque made payable to "CWAAS" to the Membership Secretary: Address is on the form.

In due course you will receive your Members' 'Welcome!' pack, which includes the Society's 'Welcome!' booklet and recent copies of the Newsletter.

The Society's main mailings are sent out 3 times each year:

  • In Spring each year (early March):
    AGM papers; Spring issue of Newsletter;
    Flyers for Society Activities; flyers for books;
    Any other items as available.
  • In Summer each year (early July):
    Annual volume of Transactions;
    Summer issue of Newsletter;
    Flyers as appropriate.
  • In early winter each year (early November):
    Autumn issue of Newsletter;
    Flyers as appropriate.

The Society's website supplies information in the intervals between the three mailings. Keep up to date!

Publications: the Society publishes a range of types of publication on a wide variety of topics. For further information click on the PUBLICATIONS menu button.

Research Grants: The CWAAS Research and Grants Committee makes grants to support projects undertaken by individuals and other societies. Bursaries and Grants are also available to young people under the age of 25 years. Click on the GRANTS AND BURSARIES menu button at the top of this page for details.

Activities: members have the opportunity to benefit from lectures, guided walks, guided visits, occasional excursions and an annual dinner or lunch. The Society is welcomed into historic homes and buildings not normally open to the public.
