The staple of the Society's publishing has always been the Transactions commencing in 1874 and continuing to the present day.
The publication of occasional single-volume studies in what came to be known as the Extra Series began in 1877.
The Tract Series, for shorter monographs in paperback, followed in 1882.
In 1899 the Record Series for monastic cartularies and other extensive original records began.
From 1914 a number of Parish Registers were published and in 1979 the Research Series was established to publish archaeological reports.
The most recent Series made its first appearance in 2009. This is the Cumbria Archaeological Research Reports Series (CARR), the first volume in which was Excavation and Survey at Roman Burgh-by-Sands. The new Series provides an outlet specifically for archaeological reports, reports which are also briefer than those in the Research Series but too long for publication in Transactions. It is intended to present recent findings as well as material which it has not been possible to publish earlier for a range of reasons.
The earlier volumes are long out of print. However, new titles continue to be published, and those available are listed in these pages. Their details, and also guidance on how to order them, are available by downloading the order form using the List Of Publications link in the column to the left.
For completeness a list of earlier publications is available by Clicking Here. Please note that inclusion in the list does not mean they are available for purchase from the Society and the list is provided only for information purposes. They will eventually be incorporated in the archive of publications.
