Archaeological investigation of a Romano-British settlement to the north of Old Carlisle Roman fort: - Martin Railton
Page(s) 1 - 24

Abstract - Note this is a plain text extract that my lose some formatting.

This paper presents the results of a developer-funded investigation of land at Syke Road, Wigton, which revealed a previously unknown Romano-British enclosure and activity near the site focused on the 2nd to late 3rd centuries AD. Associations with Old Carlisle Roman fort and vicus are indicated. Romano-British ceramics, including continental imports, nationally distributed products, and regional coarse wares, indicate that the inhabitants living near the site were firmly connected to the trade and distribution networks of Britain and the Continent.
