CWAAS Transactions is the Society's journal and has been published annually since 1874. Its volumes contain articles and shorter notes which promote the study of the history and archaeology of Cumbria, together with archaeological and bibliographical listings. The current Honorary Editor, supported by a small editorial team, invites contributions from professional archaeologists and historians as well as from others committed to the serious academic study of the county's heritage. Intending contributors are given instructions as to how their work should be presented. Articles can be submitted by email at any time to the editors who are committed to giving prompt, authoritative feedback to authors. Editors aim to give final decisions about publication within two or three months of articles being submitted. Authors should state whether the research or publication was 'funded by UKRI ( UK Research and Innovation), AHRC (Arts & Humanities Research Council) or similar public funding bodies, or by the Wellcome Trust. If so they should indicate which one, with its funding reference: and whether or not that funder requires the paper to be 'Open Access'.
Contributions are sent to anonymous referees to help assure the quality of published papers. The referees' anonymous reports are sent back to the author with one of three decisions by the editor: accept; accept subject to changes or reject. Authors will be given an indication as to when the paper will be published. The final decision on publication rests with the Honorary Editor, Professor Colin Richards, who can be contacted via the contact page on this website. The journal is usually published in the autumn. It is distributed to all members of the Society and to other subscribers in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, including subscribing institutions.
Authors should note that copyright in the published paper rests with the Society. Authors should note that the Society offers Open Access only by VOR (Version of Record), and will permit only a Creative Commons licence.
